Prescribing providers are confused about the appropriate uses for direct oral anticoagulants in the prevention of thromboembolic disease. 

This session will review practical aspects of the use of direct thrombin inhibitors (oral and parenteral) and oral direct factor Xa inhibitors. Indications and efficacy of these agents in specific clinical settings will be presented. Source:

Learning Objectives

At the end of this program, attendees will be able to understand the appropriate uses for DOACs, their uses, risks and benefits and be able to state at least one intended practice change related to care of the patient with thromboembolic disease.

Emergency medical technician for several years prior to becoming a registered nurse. While working on my degree for nursing I worked at HackensackUMC as a patient care technician in the CCU. Currently working as a Quality Improvement Speacialist in HMH Palisades, worked 1 year at Alantic Health- Overlook Emergency Department, 4 years at Holy Name Medical Center in the emergency department, and worked at Hackensack Mardian Health - Palisades Emergency department
